MY FIRST HURRICANE

IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN

EMILY JULY 17 til 18 2005

this was the last satelite pic from the net

the evening before the storm with our beautifull tree

it's getting very dark

the morning after the hurricane

suddenly we had a really big garden

our neighbours italian restaurant

AFTER SURVIVING EMILY I THOUGHT NOW I'M HURRICANE PROVED  BUT THAN CAME

"WILMA"

OCTOBER 20 til 22 2005

at first I will show you some imagenes from the morning before WILMA hit Playa del Carmen

everything seemed calm but than...

I watched the weather and storm warning in the internet......and also at the beach....

NOW IT WAS TIME TO GET OUR SHELTER READY

at around 8pm the police asked everybody to shut the doors and stay inside...

5 of our german Friends who were just kicked out of their Hotel and 2 friends from Paamul with their dog, Manne, me and our 2 dogs had now to wait inside of the Biergarten...

and than arrived WILMA

first of all the water came in.... but than the power of the storm became so strong that he pushed so powerfull the entrance door that we were really scared...

after almost 20 hours it stoped and we were all exhausted but happy that we survived and the storm was finally over....

when suddenly a friend from germany called and told us to get ready for the next round because WILMA wasn't gone, that is just the eye of the storm !!!

after another 20 hours we opened the door....

after all we were so lucky that nobody was injured and the damage was reparable...

and now some pics from the day after...

 after all I would like to say how much we were surprised about the organisation of the mexican gouverment. 2 hours after the storm the workers started to fix the electricity, there was food and water for everybody in need. The trush was picked up in no time. In the parts of Playa where the poor people live everybody who lost their roof received one for free.

I would also like to thank our neighbours, friends and a lot of tourist !!! They all helped where they could !!!

IT REALLY LOOKED LIKE THIS HUGE AND DANGEROUS HURRICANE WOULD HIT US !

FORTUNATELY FOR PLAYA DEL CARMEN HE CHANGED HIS DIRECTION MORE SOUTH BEFORE HE FINALLY ARIVED 

AUGUST 21 2007

BUT AFTER THE EXPERIENCE FROM THE OTHER HURRICANES EVERYBODY GOT READY 

MANNE CLOSED THE WINDOWS OF OUR HOUSE WITH BOARDS EVEN KNOWING THAT OUR PALAPA ROOF COULD BE BLOWN AWAY!

WE BROUGHT OUR CAR INTO A GARAGE (WITH "WILMA" WE LOST OUR OLD CAR!) 

JUST A FEW PEOPLE STILL TRIED TO MAKE SOME BUSINESS BY SELLING "MEXICAN FLAGS"

UNTIL 8pm (IT WAS ALREADY STORMING !!!) MANNE SERVED DINNER IN THE BIERGARTEN ! I CHECKED EVERY 5 MINUTES THE NEWS AND WATCHED THE PLAYA INFO FORUM. I WAS REALLY SCARED. SOMEBODY IN THE FORUM TOLD ME TO DRINK A LITTLE BIT MORE OF OUR "HAUSFUSEL" (TEQUILA)

GOOD IDEA !!!

WHEN MANNE FINALLY CAME HOME I WAS READY TO GO TO BED ! THE MOST OF THE STORMY NIGHT I COULD REALLY SLEEP. (COMPARED TO THE UNCOMFORTABLE TIME DURING "WILMA" IT WAS JUST A RELIEVE)

THE NEXT DAY ("TUESDAY" IS ANYWAY OUR DAY OFF ) WE WENT TO THE BIERGARTEN AND NO DAMAGE AT ALL !!!
